BATTLING HEROES
A dreadful wingd and a horrible surface placed Santos in a terrible position. Wishing to play football but frustrated by the dreadful pitch they called on all their cougage and battled out a great win. Inspired by Manus O GORMAN and Gerry Brady and with the skipper back in control Santos produced move after move and Gerry Brady got his second goal in two games when he chased into the box and as Annalong's keeper fumbled Manus O Gorman's shot he was on hand to steer home. More should have followed but an offside trap used by Annalong was frustrating their penetrative moves.
The second half saw a poor start and Annalong scored a suspiciously offside goal to rock Santos. But here the battling began and Manus O Gorman got his reward for a magnificent display with a powerful diving header from an impeccable pass from Lofty Mc Cartan. With the manager making a few changes positionally, Santos started to dominate. Paul Brady was sythed down and Hughes made the long trek from goal. Horrified he saw his shot go wide... his first miss from the spot in 5 years. Still battling on the heroes were rewarded in the last minute when from a great build up Paul Brady shifted between two defenders before unleashing a curling shot right to the top corner. The whistle sounded on a bitterly cold night with Annalong relegated and Santos moving to 5th position in the division. A night for brave hearts and we had them.
